Cervo

Cervo is an ancient village located on the Ligurian coast, known for its natural beauty and its millennial history. Its name comes from the Latin “Cervus” which means deer, the symbol of the city, an animal that lived in the surrounding woods. Cervo’s history is linked to fishing and maritime trade since antiquity.

During the Roman era, Cervo was an important commercial exchange port, with a fleet of ships trading along the Ligurian coast and into the peninsula. During the Middle Ages, Cervo became a maritime fortress, thanks to the construction of a medieval castle that can still be admired today.

Over the centuries, the city has experienced times of great prosperity, but also of difficulty, such as during the Saracen invasions and wars between the Maritime Republics. However, its natural beauty and strong maritime tradition have contributed to maintaining the Cervo community, which today is one of the main tourist destinations in Liguria. Cervo is famous for its long and sandy beach, surrounded by steep cliffs, which attracts many tourists every year. The historic center is characterized by narrow alleys, colorful houses and a twelfth-century Romanesque church, the Church of San Giovanni Battista, which houses a precious thirteenth-century wooden crucifix.

Today it is an ideal destination for those seeking a peaceful and relaxing holiday, surrounded by nature and history. With its privileged position, it offers a spectacular view of the sea and the surrounding hills, and allows you to discover the treasures of the Ligurian hinterland.
